Views Sought on Betting Duty (Amendment) Bill 2003

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council Bills Committee on Betting Duty (Amendment) Bill 2003 invites submissions from the public on the Bill.

The Bill, published in the Gazette on 4 April 2003 and introduced into the Legislative Council on 9 April 2003, seeks to amend the Betting Duty Ordinance to provide for the authorization and regularization of football betting in Hong Kong and related matters.

A Bills Committee, chaired by Hon Mrs Selina CHOW LIANG Shuk-yee, has been formed to study the Bill. The Bills Committee will receive views from the public at its meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 28 May 2003 at 10:45 am. Those who are interested in forwarding their views to the Bills Committee are requested to send their written submissions to the Clerk to the Bills Committee on or before 22 May 2003 (Thursday), and to indicate whether they wish to appear before the Bills Committee to give their views in person.
