Public views invited on estate duty review

************************************************

The Government today (July 20) issued a consultation document to invite views from interested parties on the review on estate duty.

A government spokesman said the Financial Secretary proposed in his 2004-05 Budget Speech to conduct a review on estate duty to examine whether the current duty regime should be adjusted to attract more foreign capital.

"The consultation forms part of the review and will last for three months, until October 20, 2004. Interested parties are welcome to send their views to the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau by post, by fax (fax number: 2530 5921) or through electronic mail (email address: edr@fstb.gov.hk)," the spokesman said.

"The Financial Secretary will present the findings of the review in next year's Budget."

The consultation document has been sent to members of the Legislative Council, political parties, professional bodies, chambers of commerce, academics and other concerned bodies.

Members of the public may obtain the document from the internet website: (https://www.fstb.gov.hk/eng/sfst/fstb.html), or from District Offices, or from the office of the Inland Revenue Department at Revenue Tower, Wan Chai.

Ends/Tuesday, July 20, 2004
