LCQ9: Statistics on salaries tax

     Following is a question by the Hon Sin Chung-kai and a written reply by the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, in the Legislative Council today (October 9):

Question:

    Regarding the statistics on salaries tax, will the Government inform this Council of:

(a) the amount of salaries tax paid by persons not paying at the standard rate, the average percentage of the amount of salaries tax in their income, as well as the highest and lowest amounts of salaries tax paid by them, in each of the past three years of assessment;

(b) the percentage of tax payers paying salaries tax at the standard rate, and the percentage of the amount of salaries tax paid at the standard rate, in each of the past three years of assessment; and

(c) data on salaries tax revenue for the year of assessment 2011-2012 as set out in Annex 1.

(a) Details of salaries tax payers paying at progressive rates (non-standard rate) in each of the past three years of assessment are set out in Table 1 of Annex 2.

(b) Details of salaries tax payers paying at the standard rate in each of the past three years of assessment are set out in Table 2 of Annex 2.

(c) Relevant statistics on salaries tax for the year of assessment 2011/12 are set out in Table 3 of Annex 2.
